Procrastination, What is it and what can you do about it.
We all find ways to avoid starting or performing certain activities for some unknown reason, until we are virtually forced to do so. This is procrastination. Procrastination is a choice people make to delay or avoid doing something, whether the choice is made consciously or subconsciously. Yet, procrastination is not necessarily bad. Many times procrastination can be considered good. In fact everybody procrastinates, countless times every day. As an example, I procrastinated in completing this procrastination blog, until I red a very negative and inaccurate blog about procrastination. AND I am procrastinating as I now complete this blog. I am choosing not to do something else at the same time. This could be called procrastination. Is that good, bad, or does it matter?

I bet if most people would look at the activities they delay or avoid starting and/or completing, they will observe fairly clear patterns. In essence, they will most often discover that they procrastinate performing the same or very similar activities. For example people who delay cleaning the kitchen, which constantly gets messy, will also find they delay cleaning their room, vacuuming the house and/or washing the car. These are all similar activities.

People choose not to do things they do not want to.

The real reason virtually everyone procrastinates is because they do not want to perform the activities they avoid. Instead of performing the undesirable activities, most people seek other more desirable activities to do. The undesirable activities are left undone, by choice, either consciously, or most often unconsciously. Frequently, outside pressures build up that become so strong that they outweigh the desire to avoid performing the activities and they force people to actually face the prospect of doing the things they had been avoiding so long.

Procrastination is natural and not bad

Unfortunately, too many people belittle themselves because they procrastinate, in believing they are inferior, or weak. They feel guilty because they have not done things the Should have done. They get caught up in the Should's. With the Should's they try to fulfill the demands, expectations, or desires of others on the other person's terms. Frequently the Should's imposed by others are accompanied with heavy guilt to make you feel bad. People who procrastinate are not bad. Instead, they are human. If procrastinators were considered bad, then EVERYONE in the world would be considered bad. Because EVERYONE procrastinates every time they do something because they are not doing something else that would define them as a procrastinator.

For example, one of my first houses that I owned in Houston, Texas, had a well-established grassy yard that was fairly small. We were on a street of very well kept yards. Grass grows rapidly during all but the three winter months in Houston. I felt a strong community pressure to mow my yard at least once a week, normally on Saturdays, to keep up appearances. But I noticed early on that while it took my neighbor whose yard was more than 50% larger than mine, only 30 minutes to cut his yard, I would procrastinate as long as possible and spend at least five to seven hours to cut my smaller yard. And I was grumpy virtually the whole time, which ruined almost every Saturday during growing season. Winter provided me a welcome relief to actually avoid cutting the grass. I tried everything to overcome my supposed weakness of procrastination. It was not until I moved years later that I discovered through coaching that one of my main (subconsciously based) self-imposed obstacles was my strong distaste for cutting the grass. I do not know why this is true nor do I care. Since I discovered my subconscious distaste for cutting grass, I have organized my house ownership to always include having lawn cutting services. Now I spend every Saturday I would have wasted trying to delay cutting the grass doing other things that I enjoy and are frequently more valuable, like yard work, cleaning, tennis, writing blogs, and spending valuable time with my family.

Yet, there are just some tasks that you do not like performing that are much better performed by you for various reasons. Avoiding them might become a bad option for you. Everybody has these types of must do activities.

The four keys to completing undesirable, yet mandatory activities without unwanted procrastination

The first key is to discover which activities you dislike performing, whether consciously or subconsciously, that you feel must be performed by you. Be sure you really are the best person to perform these activities, knowing that you have a strong distaste for doing so, and that this conflict might reduce your capacity to produce the most favorable results you would want.

The second key is to create ways to avoid as many of the activities you dislike, that others can perform better, so you do not burden yourself with unnecessary stresses, and self-criticism. Reducing unwanted and unnecessary stress is always good.

The third key is to organize the timing and places to perform the activities you do not like but must perform in a manner that best suits your priorities and conditions, to allow you to perform these undesirable activities as quickly and effectively as possible.

The fourth key is to celebrate the completion of these must do distasteful tasks every time. Reward yourself to create positive events that are associated with their completion, which will reduce your reluctance to start performing them the next time.

Conclusion

Procrastination is a very normal human activity. Everybody procrastinates. All the time! But, too often people degrade themselves because they feel their form of procrastination is bad, or makes them inferior. Procrastination is a natural choice process, whether done consciously or subconsciously. Subconscious choices to delay or avoid doing anything are frequently the most troublesome, because people do not know that they are really making these subconscious delaying choices. Stresses are caused by the conflicts between their rational brains telling them to perform activities versus their unknown subconscious telling them not to perform them. These stresses invite guilt and frequently cause people to think less of themselves. When people really discover and understand what activities they do not want to perform, both subconsciously and consciously, they can turn negative feelings of procrastination into positive processes, which they frequently are.

This other blog prompted me to complete my blog on procrastination to present what I feel is a more realistic and human perspective about procrastination, which is too often treated negatively. The writer of this blog treats procrastination as negative behavior, claiming that 20% of people are chronic procrastinators, that many people procrastinate (in a bad way) because of controlling parents, and that procrastinators consume more alcohol than others. ...»

Talents! A Remarkable Untapped Phenomenon
What are talents anyway? A talent is the capacity to perform certain activities or process certain information in a way that is very easy, natural and most often times enjoyable to the person. A talented person is capable of doing something easier, faster, with less effort, and more naturally than most other people. Talents can be physical, mental or emotional or any combination of all three.

We are all born with God given talents. But these talents are different types, different degrees and different forms for different people No two people have the exact same talents at the same degrees. I believe this is true even with twins.

Once a person is born with talents, I believe that they will not be able to gain additional talents or alter the ones they have. I do not believe people can learn new talents in school, or acquire them from others.

People can however learn new skills to enhance their God given talents. Skill training is what basketball players with exceptional basketball talents learn and hone to become the excellent basketball players that their talents give them the capacity to become. This also holds true for artists, doctors, leaders, mathematicians, and the list goes on. People must learn the information and develop their specialized skills to take advantage of their talents. People with exceptional talents that do not study their fields and develop their skills are people with Potential, but no results.

People must discover their many different talents

However, when God gave us our talents at birth he did not give us another important ingredient. He did not give us a LIST of our different and unique talents. They are and remain a mystery to each of us. Every person must discover and learn their own unique God given talents. But how do people discover and define all of their talents? There are no formal methods, processes, or schools that are focused and capable of assisting people to discover their true talents. There are lots of different assessment tests and such that purport to reveal talents, but in truth they are very inaccurate, very general, and unfortunately very misleading. They frequently cause more harm than good.

Baseball teams compete to discover baseball talents

Baseball teams hire "Talent Scouts"ť to roam high schools and even younger leagues to observe and discover kids with the natural talents for baseball. These talent scouts have special observation skills and talents, a special motivation to seek the truth and clarity, and an ability to communicate the special talents they observe in others. They sign these youngsters to contracts and the teams have them play in developmental leagues to improve their baseball skills, baseball knowledge and baseball confidence through training and practice. Frequently, these players develop so well that they become the effective and productive baseball players they and the teams want them to become to create winning baseball teams. This system has been working very well for decades. Many youngsters have been brought into the baseball world to become very successful and happy players because a "scout"ť discovered them. Most players would probably not have pursued a baseball career without being discovered by a "scout."ť

It is not easy for people to discover their own talents.

People are on the inside looking out. It is much easier for people to recognize and describe the talents of other people than themselves. But to truly discover the talents in others, a person must want to look for the talents in others, must have the awareness to recognize talents when they appear, must have the freedom of restraints to acknowledge different talents and degrees, must have the honesty to reveal the true talents, and the connection with the person to communicate openly without barriers what these talents are.

Engage your personal coach to discover your special talents

A talent discovery person must become a clear mirror to the other person. This is exactly what a personal coach does and the reason personal coaches work with their clients. The fastest, most accurate, most complete, and least costly way for people to uncover their many and varied talents is to engage their own personal coach. Personal coaches are trained, skilled and have the talents (I call this special talent "the gift of coaching"ť) to easily seek and discover the many talents of their clients and reveal them in a confidential and guilt free environment. Personal coaches are "Talent Scouts"ť who are not limited to any specific talent.

The greatest wasted resources on earth

Think about how many people go through their entire lives without discovering their talents and without putting them to great use for themselves and others. Also think about how many people are misled abut their true talents, and are even penalized because of their talents. The vast resources that exist in all of us are wasted unless people are able to not only discover and understand their own unique talents, but are able to develop the skills and knowledge to maximize their true potentials. It all starts with the discovery and understanding of our unique talents.

Examples of unique talents almost being wasted

Michael Jordan was cut from as a sophomore from his high school basketball team. Albert Einstein was required to repeat the fifth grade. Luckily for everyone, others recognized their talents and reflected them back to Michael and Albert so both could develop their remarkable talents to achieve unbelievable accomplishments later in life.

Discover and maximize your personal talents?

If you are not aware of all of your talents, consider engaging a personal coach to discover them so you to can develop the ones you want into remarkable adventures and accomplishments. Once you discover your many hidden talents you can employ them to create your "ideal income position."ť This is the position where you get to go to play every day, because you love what you do, do what you love and are rewarded so well for the valuable results you produce. ...»

Why people Do Not Have to become so unhappy in their work.
Without knowing it or not, virtually 99% of working people use the same process to select their careers and work positions. They use the Trial & Error work selection method. Emphasis on Error.

How does the Trial & Error Work Selection Method work?

First, people look for the potential work positions that exist within their present circle of interest. They evaluate the possible choices. This gives lots of people a false sense of power, because they feel in control and superior during the evaluation. They try to guess what they might like to do and which position would be best for them.

Second, they eventually select a position to give it a try.

Third, they begin working at the new position.

Fourth, they adjust to the position as presented, they adjust to the company (if there is one) they adjust to the culture of the industry, they adjust to their boss or bosses (if they have any) they adjust to the requests of their customers, and they adjust to the written or unwritten code of expectations and conduct for the position. Because they were not clear about the position or what they wanted the position to be, they are required to adjust, and frequently adjust dramatically in many ways to conform to others.

Fifth, they eventually become bored, disillusioned, unhappy, nonproductive, or just plain upset at working in the position that evolved after they made all of the adjustments to suit others.

Sixth, they decide to change positions to seek better working conditions.

Seventh, they use the same Trial & Error work selection method to find, evaluate, and select their next work position.

Eighth, they transfer to their new work position and begin the adjustment process all over again. But this time the adjustments will probably be different in some, if not many, respects. But, once again they adjust.

Ninth, they eventually become bored, disillusioned, unhappy, nonproductive or just plain upset at working in the new position that evolved after they made all of the adjustments to suit others. They get the same feelings they had from the previous position, but notice that now the scenery, the people, the duties, and rules are all different. But they feel the same bad feelings.

Tenth, they continue on again to select their next work position using the Trial & Error method to eventually generate the same results.

Sound Familiar?

People get discouraged because they used the wrong selection process

After a while people start to feel down, confused, or insecure because they cannot seem to fit in and find the right work position for them. They look around and see others who appear to be much happier and more successful. This can be upsetting. So they feel a need to put on a show to convince themselves and others that they too enjoy what they are doing. Others around them are most likely in the same unhappy work positions, and they too are probably putting on a similar show of happiness and bliss.

Or people start blaming themselves for not finding their desirable work positions. They get down on themselves. Their confidence and self esteem decline. They loose interest in their work, and even in their lives. Their performance and energy levels decline. And the downward spiral continues until something dramatic happens. They might even resort to escape methods of dugs, alcohol, or exotic lifestyle changes.

Or they choose to find alternate solutions. They seek advice. They take tests. They take additional education classes. They try to get college degrees. All to improve their hire ability, and many times their confidence and self esteem.

Or many people just choose to stick it out with their latest position until they reach the ballyhooed paradise called retirement, thinking that the bliss of retirement will justify their suffering at work for all of their years. Then they use the same Trial & Error method to select their retirement life. What happens at retirement is another confusing story.

The US Bureau of Labor has reported that the average worker in the US will change EMPLOYERS 10.2 times during their working life. I believe this statistic confirms that a vast majority of people use and follow the Trial & Error Method in their journey to get their best work position.

Yet, there is nothing wrong with the job switchers

There is NOTHING wrong with the people who find themselves in mismatching work positions. The bare truth is these people were virtually guaranteed to become disconnected with their work positions. Why? Because they used the wrong work selection method. The Trial & Error method forces people to try, adjust, and retry so many distasteful dead end work positions.

What work selection process really works?

Is there a better work selection method? Yes there is! But it did not appear until around 1992, and only a very few people were aware of it. But today in 2008 far more people have, at least, heard of this new work selection process. The new work selection process that will virtually guarantee that people WILL discover and connect with their ideal income position, where they get to go to play every day, do what they love and love what they do, and are very well rewarded for the excellent value and results they produce, because they are very good at their new work position is called career coaching. A career coach is really a personal coach who specializes in assisting people to transition into their ideal income positions.

How does career coaching work?

Your career coach will focus completely on you to assist you to unravel the mystery within you first. Your coach will ask you coaching questions to get you to open up and reveal things you have not revealed to anyone before, including yourself. Your coach will then reflect (mirror) this new information about you back to you so you discover the inner working of what drives and limits you. You will discover for the first time the following: your passions, your self-imposed obstacles, (the things you do not what to do) your beliefs and values, (your spirituality) your talents, and your priorities. When you discover these key five core ingredients about you, you will become the worlds leading expert on you.

You and your career coach custom build your ideal income position

You and your coach will then design and custom build your ideal income position to allow you to fulfill your passions and priorities, follow your beliefs, maximize your talents and avoid as many of your self imposed obstacles as you can. After designing your ideal income position, you and your coach will go obtain your ideal income position so you are operating in it on your terms. You will no longer adjust to the position. Instead, you will adjust the conditions of the position to suit you. In other words, you and your career coach will become the architect team of discovering and designing your custom position, just like you and your architect would design your custom home. You start with the foundation and build up from there.

You will have a much easier time getting your ideal income position

Because you now KNOW exactly what your ideal income position is and what it is NOT, you will have a far easier time obtaining that position than ever before. First, you will eliminate using the Trial & Error method. (This alone vastly improves your success rate) Second, you will KNOW what you want and only focus on getting it. Third, you will be so naturally enthusiastic, so naturally talented and capable, and be so good at what you love, you will become far more desirable to potential customers or potential bosses. In essence, they will seek you, because you will make them look and feel good. The acquisition step has proven to be the easiest and quickest in this process. And when you obtain that position you will continue your self-discovery to make sure the conditions around you adjust to you, so you will not be led or forced to adjust to conditions of others.

The career coaching work selection method works!

Get Your Highest Return (ROI) for Your Investments During Bad Times
The recent poor economic conditions have changed the landscape for where people would consider investing their money to receive secure, continuous, and profitable returns on their investment dollars.

Traditional investment opportunities look bleak

1. Real Estate has declined rapidly and is still in the downtrend.

2. The Stock Markets have all taken downward hits and are still very volatile and iffy.

3. The Commodities Markets have all risen to record highs and might still have some ways to go, but the risk reward for additional investments looks shaky.

4. Interest Bearing Accounts yield very low rates that are approaching levels below inflation.

As you can see these major investment areas are not providing the Return On Investment (ROI) and security that would give you enough confidence to attract your investment dollars.

Where is the best investment opportunity?

Where can you invest your money and obtain secure, continuous, and very profitable returns? The answer has been right there all along. The best place anyone can invest their money to reap the greatest ROI with the highest security and confidence is to invest in YOURSELF.

The greatest asset you will ever have is YOURSELF.

You are and will always be the most valuable and most productive asset you will ever have. When you invest in YOU and grow and improve as a person you cannot lose. Self-growth even in small levels brings considerable additional rewards and excellent returns on your self-growth investments. Think of the new opportunities and rewards that you receive when you graduate from High School and the greater levels you receive when you graduate from college. When you improve the core asset of yourself, it attracts more wealth, both financial and personal at much higher levels than the cost of the self-improvement investments. For example athletes receive rewards in recognition, power, fame, money, and adoration that are considerably greater in value and staying power than the amount they invested in increased sports coaching and training to increase their athletic skills and productivity. Medical professionals invest considerable time and effort in continued education and learning to improve their medical knowledge, shills and confidence. Their abilities to provide better and better medical solutions to their patients increase, and translate into more productive and lucrative practices.

Why risk all of your investment money in the less secure and less profitable investments of today? Carve out a portion of your investment dollars to invest in yourself now. The conditions could not be better, even though the economy appears to be declining. In fact, as others loose confidence, loose momentum, and loose interest as they scramble to protect their dwindling resources, you will stand out as you grow by investing in yourself. You will be improving yourself to move forward in the areas of your life that mean the most and you will be gaining momentum.

Possible ways you can invest in yourself to grow and improve as a person?

1. Invest in improving your health. There are all kinds of ways this can be done. Weight loss program. Exercise program. Take up an exercising sport. Eliminate unhealthy habits. Invest in activities you would enjoy that will also improve the health and conditioning of your body. Whatever you do or invest in to improve the overall health of your body will result in very valuable benefits to you in many ways. You will gain more energy, more stamina, more alertness, and more self-esteem. You will also reduce sickness down time, reduce the costs to repair your body through sickness and other body breakdowns, and you will reduce the mistakes you would make in every day decisions because you were not fully alert to think completely and clearly.

2. Invest in learning new information about subjects you like and can use to your benefit. Take classes, read books, research online information to gain more knowledge about languages, computer programs, financial information or whatever you feel will benefit you because you have become more knowledgeable. Pick subjects and information you want to learn and that you can use for personal growth.

Taking classes in subjects you have no interest in just to get grades for a degree will produce much less improvement in you, the asset you are investing in. You are spending time, effort, and money to cram information into your personal knowledge base, that you will most likely have little interest in and that you will probably forget and rarely use after you complete your exams. But if you earn a degree you might be able to use it to convince others you know something. And this could be a valuable document for marketing yourself.

3. Invest in a personal coach to accomplish any coachable goals you might have. A coachable goal is "a future place you want to be, that requires you to grow and improve as a person to achieve it."ť By using a personal coach you will unravel the mystery of you by discovering what really drives you, motivates you, limits you and what is really important to you. You will dramatically increase your true knowledge and understanding of you. This is self-awareness. And self-awareness is considered the best form of self-improvement. You will also achieve your coachable goals to reach places you had previously thought to be out of reach. You get the best of both worlds. That is why the Return On Investment (ROI) for engaging a personal coach has proven to be so remarkably high over the years. One of many studies calculated the ROI of investing in a personal coach to exceed 500%. This looks real good when compared to the 2.5% in interest you might be able to get from an interest bearing account.

By using a personal coach to achieve your chosen coachable goals, you gain two huge rewards. Not only do you directly gain the remarkable benefits you receive from the coachable goals you select, which you will undoubtedly choose to be very valuable for you, but you will also gain the remarkable benefits of the self-awareness personal growth of YOU, which will produce even more valuable benefits.

It is your money! Invest your money wisely

You are the most valuable and beneficial asset you can ever invest in. I encourage you to pick any one or more of the different ways to invest in yourself and enjoy the remarkable personal, emotional, and financial rewards you will receive by improving YOU in any way. ...»

Life Coaching has gone to the Dogs!
Oprah Winfrey calls famed dog trainer Tamar Geller, "life coach for dogs" Tamar prefers the term "well-mannered" to "obedient" and "coaching" to "training." Geller has helped stars including Oprah Winfrey teach manners to their four-legged family members.

"Geller was featured on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" as Oprah's personal dog coach, and has provided insight to millions of dog enthusiasts nationwide as resident dog expert on "The Today Show" and Animal Planet's "Who Gets the Dog.""ť

Geller must be thrilled to be one very special person who is able to get dogs to open up to him and reveal their inner passions and priorities as their life coach. Eddie Murphy played Dr. Doolittle in a movie where he could hear and talk to animals, including dogs. Am I right thinking Geller can hear what dogs think and can also talk to dogs in the same manner? If so, I would love to see a video of him coaching a dog. The repartee would have to be priceless.

Geller opens up a whole new market for many life coaches out there seeking clients. But why stop with just dogs? I imagine someone will soon claim that he or she is the life coach for cats, horses, cattle, bears, goats, and or turtles. The possibilities are endless.

The next time you visit a zoo, you might be lucky enough to meet the resident life coach for the animals, and learn about the inner concerns of the animals that their life coach will reveal.

I guess we at TCC know whom to call when we hear a dog barking on an incoming life coaching consultation request call. We call Geller, the "life coach for dogs."ť
